Definition of solar energy
Solar energy is the energy radiated from the Sun which includes heat and light. Ever since the dawn of technological advancement, this free source of energy has been harnessed by human by a variety of ways to take advantage of its never-ending supply.
Solar energy can be widely categorised into many different types, including but not limited to fields such as solar electrical power generation, solar thermal energy and so on. These are mainly divided into two main categories – supply-side technology and demand-side technology.
With the ever worrying issue of scarcity of non-renewable fossil fuels such as oil and gas for electricity generation, many countries have started to turn their attention to using solar power and much research has gone into making solar power mainstream.
Since the Sun can continue to burn for a very long time, it seems that solar energy may seem the only viable renewable and clean energy source for mankind for the far future. The only problem lies in capturing the sunlight and increasing the efficiency in converting the energy to electricity.
